I would suspect it was supposed to be a precautionary evacuation via the slides since it would take too long to taxi to the gate or get stairs to the plane.
It
was at the gate. Qantas no longer do Precautionary Evacuations and (as mentioned) the Captain made it quite plain….."Evacuate, Evacuate, Evacuate"
