Maybe, maybe not. It's impossible to extrapolate what would have happened at 6000' (which in any case is still 10,000' below MSA). But the descent to 1500' from 6000' is ABSOLUTELY not a "distraction". Terrain rises up from sea level. With every foot you drop below MSA, your chance of hitting terrain increases. 1500' was always going to be more dangerous than 6000'.
