Since when do pilots contact manufacturers for maintainence issues? We fly the plane and report all and any incidents and abnormalities that may affect the safety of the aircraft to our maintainence. At least that's what we do in the operation I work for. Up to maintainence to decide what they want to do from there.

Just bringing up a point that us of interest and knowledge. And actually, as I am sure you well considered, pilots could be in a position where they want to make sure this is done if they have more responsibility over such issues such as at an ACJ(business jet) operator.
