FI Renewal

Hi, apologies in advance as I know this subject is touched on every year, but I wanted to check that the situation has not changed recently.

So, I was a QFI at a UK flying club until 1996, then into airline work since. I have recently retired, somewhat unexpectedly after the Thomas Cook collapse. I would like to continue to fly and going back to FI seems logical. At the time of finishing I had about 1200 hrs of instructing logged. My TT is 13000 hrs.

If I have read previous posts correctly, I need to have a Renewal of my FI rating which appears on the back of my ATPL.
This would consist of approaching an ATO.
Being assessed for training needs.
Completing an ASSESSMENT OF COMPETENCE.
Attending an Instructor Seminar.

After which I would presumably have a restricted FI rating reinstated on my licence. But would be free to Instruct for pay.

I'd be really interested if anyone who has done this could give me an idea of how much they paid to get the boxes ticked. Also, how it worked out for them in terms of finding students to teach.

Thanks in advance.
