Τhere is very very little available place to arrange liquids electronics and stuff before security. Usually the first available space is just before the machine.
As I approach security coins, keys and mobile get transferred from my pockets to the side pocket of my carry-on bag, removing my belt buckle, now that is something that needs to wait until I am asked to remove it.
