I think it is worth pointing out that the handling agent at this station was at fault as they had used an unofficial sizer. I am glad that this person was able to get a refund through the small claims court. My initial reaction was that flybe should of given a refund before things got that far, however they were flooded with complaints from the introduction of this cabin bag policy. As other low-cost competitors have had very strict hand baggage policies for many years I think it came as a surprise the backlash of complaints. Part of the issue was the lack of resources Eg one boarder processing the departure gate in many stations that the charges due to time constraints meant a random selection of passengers were stopped and charged meaning many passengers were charged in just one direction of a return with the same bag. This you would think would made many pleased to have got away with it but on the contrary gave people the argument that the charge shouldn't apply because they weren't charged on the way out of the journey. I imagine virgin connect will have yet another policy once the rebranding takes place next year.
