Number crunched and I'm in the same position as now after 4-5 years, better off every year after that on a UK contract with just under 30 years to go. Bearing in mind bases with lower cost of living are available (take-home at several bases, both EU and non-EU is comparable to that in UK after tax), for the younger guys it's more than worth it, it's worth consideration even with a family. No constant 4 sector days but being home every night has to be one of the biggest advantages of staying if in.
