The effect was drainage, the purpose was not. I believe that in this area the undertaking had two functions, transport and defence, and was undertaken long before Paludrine. I believe that those involved, not many kilometres away from the airfield, in later years played a major role in early military aviation.
The field itself was not used in its primary role, but soon found another divers role.
