In Ryanair / Wizzair case they provide something that the customer wants with lots of flexibility but also a willingness to cull routes quickly that are not working. Neither are always cheap but any addons (transportation to city / accomm etc) are paid by customer direct to the provider where Airline is only acting as the introducor. Ryanair looked at every single activity and asked the simple questions, Can we avoid doing it ? Can we charge for it ? Can we make it more steamlined ?

TC had hundreds of shops with Rent / Rates / Utilities / Staff / Computers / Furniture etc etc so basically before they make a single penny on a holiday they would need to be able to pay for I reckon £3-400k cost minimum in every one of those shops. In an era where 90% of people have home computers / tablets / smart phones it is outdated.

In relation to Poundland / Primark, people always looking for cheaper and happy to buy something that costs next to nothing in one of these shops even knowing they are made by people paid just above slave labour wages around the world.
