Interesting. I'm just back from a few days in Ireland and although I was expecting a passport-free arrival into DUB I and the rest of the pax had to offer our passports to an automated reader/camera arrangement in order to gain entry.

Exiting Ireland at Shannon did not require the production of a passport nor did UK entry at STN but of course you don't get to travel anywhere on Ryanair without your passport!
