By the way, why do UK passport readers usually not work and other countries do ?
Came back last night through LHR T2,; fairly busy (about 7.25pm), quite long queues in the non-EU Border control. On the other side, very large number of passport readers, all working perfectly as far as could tell, meant that there was NO QUEUE whatsoever to go through, first time I have seen that since 1970. Upshot was that from the airbridge to the bus station took about 10 minutes. So someone is doing something right.
