Yeah, I remember it the other way around. If on blocks in CLK after 2300 (may have been 2330, I can't recall) the CC would get a taxi fare. If we had delays which was very common our new arrival time could put us close and if so from TOC we would be hounded by the CC to slow if necessary to make it just after that time.
Typically we would have 100+ pax connecting on to Europe, Oz or the US and in the days before ACARS we would be getting notes from pax with details of their connecting flights and relaying this on to OPS on VHF when in range. Maybe 3 or 4 aircraft would be waiting for our pax, each with possibly 250 -300 pax already boarded being delayed on each onward flight. If we did all we could to arrive asap and it was before the time, well we would be left in no doubt as to their feelings, just like the twitterer above.
Not for one minute would the effect of further delay have on hundreds if not thousands of other people cross their minds. What about our own pax who have to commute in HKG, no taxi fare for them. Selfish hardly covers it. Pity that so many of the fantastic CC are tarred with same brush.
