Barrie Stephens
Barrie Stephens
Barrie passed away early this morning. For the last 34 years he had been a Line Engineer with Monarch based at Luton and prior to that he was in the Royal Navy.
Barrie was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, but was determined to beat it. Unfortunately he lost this argument, one of the few that I can remember him doing so. One of his last words to me were "It's got me". He was a mentor and example to many of us in the industry and I salute him.
He was always chirpy and never one to back away from a problem. His familiar West Country accent spoken in a slightly higher pitch than you would expect follwed almost always by a loud laugh will be sadly missed. For those that knew him, we can all probably remember a tale to tell that involves Barrie. Always imaculately turned out and never a hair out of place. (Why did his overalls never get dirty?)
Jackie, his wife who is ex-Monarch Cabin Crew and again a very 'bubbly' person for those who will remember her is being looked after by relatives. Jackie too is not well and I am sure that she would love to hear from anyone who used to work with her.
Barries funeral is at the Bedford Crematorium on Monday 17th November at 14:30. The family has requested no flowers and any donations to Cancer Research please.
God bless old friend
