Crashed Ecuador Plane Found, No Survivors

QUITO, Ecuador (Reuters) - Rescue teams have confirmed there were no survivors of the crash of an Ecuadorean state oil company plane that went down last week carrying 26 people, an air force official said on Wednesday.

"The Petroecuador plane was found at 6:20 p.m. in El Tigre hill, in Colombian territory,'' air force rescue operation coordinator, Humberto Andrade, told Radio Quito. "There are no survivors.''

Parts of the plane were found in an area known as El Tigre, about three miles across Ecuador's border in the Colombian jungle, about 81 miles northeast of Quito.

The twin-engine Fairchild plane disappeared last Thursday on a routine flight that shuttled Petroecuador oil workers from Quito to the Amazon. There were 21 passengers and five crew members aboard the flight.

Rescuers spent six days scouring the dense Amazon jungle for the plane. It was spotted on Sunday at El Tigre, but rainy weather limited visibility and made aerial patrols difficult.

According to Petroecuador, the passengers were all company employees or contract workers. They were all Ecuadoreans.
