OK, I hadn't heard of that requirement, and frankly I'm surprised at it.
While I agree that it's unreasonable to expect FR24 to have a separate icon for each of 3,000-odd ICAO designators, I wouldn't have thought that it was beyond their wit to maintain a lookup table that would allow at least assignment of a generic icon that corresponds to how ICAO categorise a given aircraft (of which there are only a couple of dozen common combinations), for example "light single piston-engined fixed-wing".
Anything would be better than showing G-IRTY as
for want of a little bit of common sense.
