From my aged memory Christchurch, Hampshire (as it was when closed) only had a grass runway. Also, at the time of closure you would only have seen Austers, Tiger Moths, and some ex AST Oxfords, before they were broken up. All hangars on the west side, with one exception being the ATC gliding school at the south end.
Christchurch did have a hard runway originally laid in 1943 using steel mesh and concrete then tarmaced over in 1954..
