A quick update ahead of World Helicopter Day 2019 at Historic Helicopters
Our Westland Family of Helicopters will be joined by the following:
Westland Scout XW283 (G-CIMX) owned and operated by Graham Hinkley
Unfortunately, due to operational commitments, 675 Sqn Army Air Corps have been forced to cancel their attendance
Timetable of events is as follows:
0930 – Gates open (£10/person or £25/car), café open for breakfast
1000 – British Championship Qualifying Drone Racing throughout the day
1100 – Historic Helicopters, a welcome and introductory talk from Andrew Whitehouse (Owner/Pilot)
Engineering the fleet, a talk by Dave Wells (Chief Engineer)
The Chinook in action – Al Sparks
1130 – Den Building with Lucy and the Scouts
1200 – Helicopter flying (subject to aircraft serviceability and weather)
1300 – Avon & Somerset Police Dog Demonstration Team
1300 – Fastnet Yacht Race Disaster 40th Anniversary Commemoration (beside Wessex XT761)
1330 – Horseless Horse Trials in aid of Regain
1300 – 20 minute Hangar tour
1400 – Avon & Somerset Police Dog Demonstration Team
1400 – 20 minute Hangar tour
1400 – Campfire and “S’mores” with Lucy and the Scouts
1500 – Helicopter Flying (subject to aircraft serviceability and weather)
1500 – 20 minute Hangar tour
Please be aware that the A30 between us and Chard is currently undergoing extensive repairs and is closed. If coming from the M5, please follow the directions below:
From the M5 Junction 25 take the A358 towards Yeovil. At the A358/A303 roundabout take the second exit for the B3168 towards Ilminster. Do not turn left towards Curry Rivel and follow the signs for Town Centre. Do not turn right towards the Town Centre but continue along the road past The Bell Inn. At a fork in the road turn right towards Kingstone, Dowlish and Crewkerne. At the end of that road turn right towards Chard and look out for a left turn at the brown tourist sign for “Chard Equestrian Centre” and the Open Day signs.
Our chosen Charity this year is Regain - a unique national charity dedicated to improving the lives and independence of British men and women who have become tetraplegic as a result of a sporting accident. Tetraplegia is paralysis caused by a spinal cord injury in the cervical (neck) region of the spine.
Why not get a team of 3 together, have a laugh and raise some money for a very worthy cause!
