I suppose these airlines consider lots of things that may or may not come to pass. And when we plebes hear of them, it isn't always understandable.
I’m just a pleb connecting the dots, but putting my tin foil hat on it would appear that Frontier will be targeting applicants that are locked in to them, and/or get them early enough that once they’re attractive to legacies they are in too deep with seniority (and all the life costs that go with a bigger pay check).
seems like a decent strategy going forward for them to keep the place staffed when retirements peak in about 6-7 years.
