An American AOC can not be bought; however, the company under which the AOC is registered can be purchased and the AOC goes with it. Once the AOC is owned and is operational any US registered aircraft can be put on it providing it meets certain criteria like an approved MIP program, conformity check, approved Director of Maintenance, etc. You would need a Part 121 (general carriage) or a Part 125 ( specialized cargo carriage) to operate.
