An "immediate decision" for a human being
is an eternity for a computer. By the time Sully noticed something was amiss, an autonomous system could have considered thousands of scenarios, computed the best course of action (having the highest probability of success), and initiated a safe turn back to La Guardia, all without much drama. This is
exactly what computers are good for.
