Well, airlines are not pricing like railyways in the steam engine era, i.e. a fixed amount for each mile traveled. It is all about competition and supply & demand on a route. ABZ-KOI has no competition by air and reasonable demand for the capacity offered. Quite unlike SEN-ABZ with lots of competition and most probably more supply than demand. So LM is pricing below costs to get a foot in the door. It should be obvious that selling tickets for an average fare of 50 GBP on a 50 seater plane is not sustainable even if all seats are taken. And reading that cars need to be trasnported by freight ship to Stornoway with no guarantee that they will make it there at all nicely demonstrates why an airline can charge a premium for flights.
