Not if you're wanting to fly GLA - SYY at short notice, ie, not as a tourist. I was going to book three adult returns a fortnight ago to attend a family funeral. Two of us were pensioners so we were looking at the afternoon flight going up and a cheaper evening flight coming back a few days later. The total fare was about £950. We would have needed to hire a car on arrival as well.
A fourth adult was travelling from Inverness so we drove up to Inverness and over to Ullapool for the ferry. I had been in touch with the Ullapool office who said that they could only guarantee passage for the passengers but to be there a couple of hours early as the stand by queue was first come first served. We were fifth in the s/by queue and were asked to buy tickets that would be fully refundable if the car could not get on. There were spaces on the freight ferry that night and any cars left behind would be driven on and off by Calmac and we could collect the car the following morning at Stornoway when it suited us.
They managed to get the first six vehicles from the stand by queue on board and about four cars were left for the freighter.
We paid £190 for four adults and a car, return, at no-notice.
