And the flight crew. Had Boeing come clean with the existence of this system from the outset and provided training in what to do with anomalous operation, this would all be a non-issue. Undesired pitch down due to invalid AoA input would probably still warrant a fix. But given the crew's awareness of the system, it's failure modes and relatively simple work-around procedures, the updates could have been implemented with a more economical and lower operational impact plan rather than as a crisis. Not to minimize the 300-odd people that would still be alive.
