Indeed. As I understand it this initiative is aimed at speeding up boarding by using facial recognition technology to reconcile boarding passengers with those checked in. Nothing whatsoever do with eliminating passports.
Like any new technology I suspect there will be teething troubles but in a few years we'll take it for granted.
