Before AvPlan and iPads I used UltraNav and then drew the lines on the paper charts that I bought. UltraNav ceased when the cost of ERSA data became excessive but I see that the author is still around Aircraft Performance Software by Ultra-Nav

Seems to me that a lot of ink would be used in printing charts every time I went somewhere so I wouldn't contemplate it.
