Sorry, just seen this... Stornoway is anything but a 'short-field' airport: at about 2,300m its runway is nearly as long as Newcastle's. Sumburgh has about 1,500m, so is a lot shorter than Southend. Plus there's a great big hill on the approach to runway 33 leading to an interesting approach pattern.
A Ryanair base on Stornoway...asking a lot for a catchment area of just 27k, and about 25k for Sumburgh.
Would probably make sense to codeshare with Loganair and feed SEN instead,
