Pontius N, as to noise coming from the tracks, I suppose so, but that's about like holding a stick of dynamite to your ear to check if it's lit by listening for the fizzing of the fuse. If you can hear the noise from the track then you are too close for safety.

Here in Germany the platforms are raised about a meter from the level of the track bed so that it's not just a matter of leaping to one side. Then too there is the question of which way to jump if there are three or more tracks.

As I was watching Frl. Pollard and her chums I was thinking, "Okay, so the gene pool will be cleansed, but what about the delays while they scrape her off the track? I want to get to Bremen on time." Oxygen thieves, the lot of them.
