First time round they said the Dublin and Belfast routes did rather well, particularly at the weekend, with Southend having lower than expected demand. I guess this is part of the reason its been dropped to once daily instead of twice daily. The trouble is you need all 3 to work to justify basing an aircraft there, otherwise you may be dependant on a Dublin/Belfast based carrier taking on the route.
However, as others have said, the main aim is to just get flights operating again. Once the airport is up and running, then things can be adjusted and evolve based on demand.
