Thank you for your replies. Very sad to read the details of this tragedy. A friends grandfather was a national serviceman, in the RAF, based in Singapore around that time who survived an RAF plane crash which claimed lives, hence my post on this forum.
From your replies and what I've discovered elsewhere, it doesn't seem like it was WL786. However, I do apologise if I've re-opened some old wounds amongst PPRUNE's correspondents.
