As an engineer, not a pilot, I have not understand why not just install stick pusher? MCAS is working behind the scenes and don't inform the pilot. It is some kind of grey eminence. A stick pusher would tell the opinion of the automation system and if you disagree, there is clear procedure for that.
Currently, many devices are so complicated that they tends to have similar characteristics as (badly beheving) human. For that reason, the user interface should be implemented so that human can understand the machine.
