In maybe the early 1970s I recall seeing The Sunship Game, which might have been shot at Marfa at a US Gliding Championships.
Marfa Texas, the 1969 US Open Class Nationals. The 'documentary' story was of the rivalry between George Moffat and Gleb Derujinski in their stretched Open Cirrus'. The real competition George had was Wally Scott in his ASW 12. There is a DVD copy available, albeit not cheap and being transferred from film the quality is average by current standards. It's also on YouTube split into 10 minute segments because of the time limit, but with chunks of the sound track removed for copyright reasons (and if you are not a BeeGees fan, maybe a good thing too.) Some staged footage but a lot real - the landing short in the desert in a cloud of dust, and the spin in from 50 ft are real.
