I flew with Jasper on the Dash 8 and while it was many years ago my recollection was of a kindly and colourful man with more experience than many of us combined. I enjoyed flying with him, and always learned something.
My impression was that he loved aviation and lived and breathed it, so the fact that the initial poster has recognised his position in the world as “Captain” is fitting and appropriate in a world where the person sitting in the left hand seat is often addressed as “mate”.
Respect is earned not demanded and I think Jasper has done more than enough to earn that respect, in both this life and the next.
PS I am not suggesting that anyone has been disrespectful.
