Plane Lands in Tree Sunshine Coast NSW

A man has been taken to hospital after a light plane crashed into a field north of Bungendore in New South Wales.

Key points:

  • The man was treated for minor injuries and was taken to Queanbeyan Hospital
  • The plane was being flown by a member of the Canberra Aeronautical Club
  • The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is investigating the cause of the incident

A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed it was notified of the forced landing of the Piper Tomahawk about midday and sent three crews to the scene.

A man was treated for minor injuries, including from seatbelt force and damage to the head. He was taken to Queanbeyan Hospital.

The plane was privately owned, but the Canberra Aeronautical Club has since confirmed one of its members was flying.

It is believed downwinds pushed the aircraft into the tree line shortly after take-off, causing it to clip the trees and crash.

A spokesman from NSW Police, which is investigating the incident, said the man was the only person in the plane at the time of the incident.

The plane landed on a ridge among bushland beside Currandooley Road, near Lake George, and appeared to have come down just short of an airfield.

The aircraft could be seen still tangled in among tree branches about 5:00pm.
