Odd indeed that the pax were not flown down. We all heard about people sitting on planes at LGW for hours and hours when that drone was around. It would be interesting to know if there is anything SOU can do to help ease the fog problem, it does seem to suffer from it often. Whilst its limitations are well known, and ILS is now seemingly a retrograde step, there must be technology around or in development to counteract these issues (or at least ease them). I know they not to long ago installed some apparatus that measures the visibility, to replace a man on a step ladder deciding (apparently this actually happened until recently!), and there was a noticeable improvement in operations during fog. However, lately SOU has gone back to being closed for most of the morning. The landing lights probably have not been changed since the airport opened.
