It will look equally classy on a B744. In fact it did for ten years or so ...
But I agree that a retro livery has the most impact when applied to a type that has never worn it.
Maybe BA will have more imagination than we give them credit for - imagine a 747 in either of the two schemes (white tail/blue tail) that the Stratocruisers, Britannias, etc, wore.
