I remember flying into YMMB in a Yak a few years ago. I reported at the inbound point and received clearance. Then a bit later the tower advised me that they can’t see my transponder. “That’s because there isn’t one fitted” I replied. They were so used to every aircraft having one even though it is not required in Class D for VFR. Look out the tower window guys!
