FAA CPL & ATPL recommended training material
Hello Everybody!
I have been reading this forum for some time, so it is now my turn to jump in with a question! I have done some searches in the forum for the following question, but I have not found exactly what I was looking for. If it is already somewhere please point me in the right direction.
I have currently an FAA PPL and I just passed my FAA Instrument Rating, training in a Part 141 flight school near Houston, TX.
I want to pursue my training to FAA CPL, Multi-Engine, and eventually FAA ATPL (Theoretical). I currently work in the US (in another industry), and for family and visa reasons, I cannot just drop everything and go to a flight academy. I have to privilege online training, or distance learning solutions.
So here is (finally) the question: Do you have some recommendations for books (or eBooks) that would prepare me to the theoretical exams of FAA CPL and ATPL (not EASA)? I have found a lot of threads on EASA (or JAA) training, but not so many on FAA.
Here is what I have found so far:- Jeppesen books: apparently the reference, but described by some as too much information for a self-taught student. My understanding is that they have a version for FAA exams. Is this correct?
- Phil Croucher books, or iPad applications: recommended by many, but is it for FAA or EASA? Not sure…
- Bristol Ground School training material: recommended by many, but as far as I can tell, only for EASA. Please confirm.
- Gleim “red books”: described by some as focused on learning by heart the answers to all questions, with not too much focus on the understanding of the question… Definitely for FAA licenses.
- King School online training: My Flight School was using their online training course for my FAA PPL and IFR rating. They propose also an online training for CPL and ATPL; being based in the US, I assume it is for FAA instead of EASA.
- Other???
In advance, thank y’all for your valuable input!
