As a computer engineer with 45 years' experience, I think I am qualified to say that anybody who pronounces it as 'Jigabyte' is a script kiddie! What you hear in "Back to the Future' is just fantasy, as are most products of Hollywood. One case in point is that they always get radio call-ups wrong. You never say 'to' when calling, it is always 'from', as in "called party this is calling party".

As a junior tech at Bell Canada, I starred in a promotional film where the director told me to feed paper tape into a teletype machine backwards for the camera. I could strip down the machine and show him the ratchets that fed the wheel, but he was the director and he said that was the way you fed tape in. (He had seen it before :-) )

I have never believed anything I have seen in a film since!
