The five year background check (certainly in the UK) only requires that someone vouch for the relevant period. It doesn’t have to be anyone in a position of authority at Wizz Air at all. This caters for situations where companies have ceased to operate or stops you being held hostage by someone with a grudge, quite rightly too.

I’m not really passing any comment just stating the facts, there have been several people leave without paying the bond at Wizz who are now in employment at legacy airlines. None of the ones I knew who did were pursued by Wizz Air in any way, most probably because in any employment tribunal A) they always find in favour of the employee and B) would throw light on their shady employment practices. FWIW I actually paid the remainder of mine, I was one of very, very few.
