Gare à l'eau! !!
++The word
gardyloo is a warning cry uttered before throwing wastewater (literally and euphemistically) out of a window. Every source I've found has traced this word back to some French phrase translating as "watch out for the water." However, the specific French phrase seems to vary.
Historically it is supposedly why men are always to walk on the curb-street side when escorting women- Since the 'morning' waste water/effluent in the day was tossed out from the 2nd or third story windows ( hopefully ) into the gutter ..
