Back in the late 80's/early 90's a guy I worked with was living under the Northolt approach at the time, around where the Connie started it's climb out from nearly taking the top of the Harrow on the Hill spire off, and said he thought the world had ended with the noise it made.
I think the spire got its red light put on top after that incident.
And to the OP, yes, Southall gasometer demolition started about 6-8 weeks ago, and they are now down to the point just below where the LH letters were.
