The A300 wasn’t a long range aircraft initially. There was no such thing as ETOPS in the 60’s-early 90’s. It was designed to be a short to medium range aircraft for inter Europe flying. It became a medium to longish range aircraft later on. It’s also the only Airbus that Boeing pilots will say good things about.
