Just picked up today's Daily Echo with the headline "City Airport Expansion Plans". Maybe a glimmer of hope for traffic growth with a planned 170 metre runway extension to the north, albeit will probably only be usable as a starter strip for 20.
Should improve the runway 20 figures (unless CAA insist on a standard Runway End Safety Area at the south end, rather than the current fudge) which would swallow up part of the usable 170 metres. If the status quo is maintained with the RESA the extension will permit declaration of 1799 metres take-off run for 20, which is the same as Southend but with the slight advantage of a greater landing distance than Southend. Enough to persuade Easy to expand? All then needed is parking space for them!
