Don't know why you can't fly gliders. There is no requirement in the UK to have a licence to fly gliders until April 2020. If you already fly gliders in the UK you can continue as you are till then. You cannot get glider as a type on a power licence if you want an EASA sailplane (Glider) licence it has to be applied for separately normally through the BGA. Requirements for the issue of an SPL or LAPL(S) are on the BGA website.
