"Announcement 📢: Carlisle Lake District Airport is delighted to announce that it has opened its new runway today.

The development means that a wider range of general aviation (GA) planes, including some private jets such as the Gulfstream 650, Learjet (8-12 seat type) and the Citation X 6 Mustang, can now use the airport.

The civil aviation authority (CAA) gave special approval to operate the 1,799-metre-long, 30-metre-wide 06/24 runway within the stated operational procedures.

The news, which comes just before the long Bank Holiday weekend, follows the announcement of a series of GA offers at the airport:

• Landing fees will be discounted at 20% for August and reviewed for September
• Avgas fuel will be £1.70 per litre (including VAT), commencing on Friday 10 August until Sunday 30 September
• Jet fuel prices will remain unchanged at market rates
• Stobart Café, located in the North Apron, will also offer a free tea or coffee with every purchase above £5

Kate Willard, Head of Corporate Projects at Stobart Group, said: “We are delighted that even more general aviation aircraft, including some private jets, can now use Carlisle Lake District Airport.

“The team at Stobart Rail and Civils have made good progress in redeveloping the airport, and the new runway is twice the length of our existing strip.

“I am also pleased to report that our air traffic controller (ATC) recruitment programme is moving ahead, and the ATC training scheme is on-track for the launch of commercial passenger flights at the airport in spring 2019 with our partner Loganair.”"
