Where are the nearest hospitals to the Scillies??????Oh yes, Cornwall - Treliske to be precise and that is where they went.

Dispatch a SAR helicopter for someone in labour? What's wrong with St Mary's Hospital? What a waste of UK taxpayer money.
Unexpected early labour with no midwife available on the Islands (no maternity unit at St Marys) what would you want them to do if it was your wife? It's far less a waste of taxpayers money than searching for an inebriated fool who falls into the water drunk or saving people cut off by the tide because they don't bother to read about such things.

In fact, it is exactly what taxpayers money should be used for.

Islanders have to decamp to the mainland when they are expecting.
