I was wondering what the heck a B-16 was...
I went for a ride on the Collins B-17 around 10 years ago - priceless. My big regret is that my WWII vet dad (South Pacific - Purple Heart on Guadalcanal, Bronze Star somewhere over there but unlike the Purple heart, he never talked about the Bronze Star) wasn't still alive so that I could take him along.
Back in 1976, Colorado Springs somehow managed to book what was then the Confederate Air Force for the July 4 bicentennial weekend (I know Commemorative AF is more politically correct, but they will always be the Confederate AF in my mind). My summer job at the time was to drive a parts delivery truck for a car dealer in Pueblo (~40 miles from C Springs). I was out making a delivery when I heard
that sound! I looked up - B-17, B-25, P-38, and P-51 flying in formation overhead. When I got home from work I immediately asked my dad if we could go up to Springs for the show - it took about a half a second for him to agree
