Changing face of aviation

Anybody have any thoughts on the changing face of aviation?

Thinking back, it used to be the case in times gone by that if somebody developed a slightly different shape winglet, this was wrongly marketed as being a 'major innovation'.

Now, we've got fully electric aircraft with 3.5 hour flight durations, easy battery replacement between flights, and minimal operating cost not only in development, but being actively sold around the world.
Even flying on the lower end of the spectrum (think sailplanes) is being shaken up by the introduction of SSDR sailplanes. Again, these are not only being developed, but being actively sold worldwide.

There is probably more development happening now that will change the face of aviation upon widescale introduction than there has ever been in history.

Thoughts?
