Personal liberty ends up being better for the herd in the long run. Don't belive me? Remind me again which country has the largest economy? And when it comes to guns, that is a deeply engrained cultural thing in the U.S. It is enshrined in our Constitution and not going anywhere. Just accept it's a cultural difference between our countries. Despite the supposed gun violence in the U.S., I've never seen a gun pulled in anger in my 50 years.
