Part of it has 'gone South" ...
As all military area radar has now been consolidated at Swanwick, it has been decided that from March 2018 military area radar training will take place at Swanwick using the dedicated simulator.
Thus endeth the era of the Area Radar Training Squadron at Shawbury and indeed its predecessor at Sopley.. Of course, the throughput must now be minimal in comparison to the 60s when Area really got into business, and the School had to train people to man 10-12 (?) ATCRUs. I understand that Swanwick training will be confined to the specific Sectors that individuals will be working on ... usually just 2 of the 7 sectors. A rather narrow employment band these days!
